Deadly Migrant Tragedy Near Gran Canaria
A vessel that spent 27 days drifting in the Atlantic was finally discovered off the coast of Gran Canaria, where Spanish rescue teams saved 44 people from the boat. Preliminary reports suggested that 127 migrants had been aboard, and five bodies were still on the craft when it was found. Spain’s maritime rescue service, SASEMAR, located the vessel on September 2 roughly 65 nautical miles southwest of Arguineguín.
