Western Pressure on Ankara and Baku
Analyst Oleksiy Kushch, speaking on political commentator Yuriy Romanenko's broadcast, revealed that the West is pressuring Turkey and Azerbaijan to open a military front against Iran. In exchange, they are being offered a land corridor through Iran's East Azerbaijan province. The leadership of both nations has so far resisted this move, citing risks from Russia and potential internal conflicts.
Kushch stated in his remarks that
"there will be a very strong attempt to drag Azerbaijan and Turkey into a war,"emphasizing that establishing a corridor between the two nations is a 'key objective for Ankara and Baku.' However, he warned that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev could jeopardize his 'colossal historical contribution to Azerbaijan's history' by becoming entangled in a conflict with Iran, which could undo his life's work.
A Region of Complex Dynamics
Kushch also highlighted that Russia views the Caspian Sea as a kind of internal lake. He stressed that if there were a risk of Turkish and Azerbaijani forces seizing the southern coastline, Russia
"would have already sharply increased its participation in this war."
It is further noted that Israel and the United States have presented Aliyev with a bill for their assistance in the war against Armenia. Concurrently, Azerbaijan experienced a drone attack by unknown actors on the Nakhchivan airport and decided to withdraw troops from the border. These events point to a volatile regional situation where geopolitical interests heavily influence the domestic and foreign policies of Turkey and Azerbaijan. The South Caucasus is a strategic crossroads where the interests of global and regional powers frequently collide.
The situation remains tense and complex as the geopolitical interests of major powers like the U.S. and Russia intersect with the internal challenges facing Turkey and Azerbaijan. Opening a front against Iran could have serious consequences not only for these countries but for the stability of the entire Caucasus region. The evolution of events related to military conflicts could alter the balance of power in this strategically vital area, necessitating careful monitoring by the international community.
