Bohdan Petrus's Funeral Arrangements
The funeral for defender Bohdan Petrus will be held in Lviv on April 21, 2026, more than two years after his death on February 9, 2024. This long-awaited ceremony will provide a crucial moment of closure for his family and friends, who have endured a prolonged period of grief.
The Life and Service of Bohdan Petrus
Bohdan Petrus was born in Lviv on December 23, 1982. He received his foundational education at Lviv Secondary School No. 7 of the Lviv City Council. Following school, he trained as an electrician at the Lviv Higher Vocational School of Computer Technologies and Construction and later worked as a locksmith for the Lviv municipal enterprise Lvivelectrotrans.
In 2023, amid the ongoing war, Bohdan answered the call to defend his country. He served with the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynsky of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, demonstrating courage and valor while performing his military duty on the Mykolaiv and Kherson fronts to protect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
His burial will take place at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Field of Honor No. 87. He is survived by his parents and family, who are now preparing for their final farewell to their son and brother. His loss will leave a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. Such delays in burial are not uncommon during active conflict, as logistical and security challenges can postpone final rites.
The funeral of Bohdan Petrus stands as a symbol of remembrance for all who have given their lives defending Ukraine during the war.
Support for the family and loved ones during this difficult time is paramount, as such personal losses become woven into the nation's collective memory and underscore the value of peace. This event also highlights the importance of honoring military personnel who fought for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity, reminding us of the ongoing need to support veterans and their families.
The loss of defenders like Bohdan Petrus highlights the heavy toll the ongoing conflict has taken on families across Ukraine. Similarly, the recent news of another fallen soldier, Roman Petriv, who served with the 80th Brigade, underscores the sacrifices made by those who stand up to protect their homeland. As the nation mourns, each story serves as a poignant reminder of the courage and commitment displayed by these heroes.
