Weekly Update on Respiratory Illnesses in Ukraine
For the week of March 23 to 29, 2026, Ukraine recorded 125,851 cases of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), influenza, and COVID-19. Of those infected, 54,025 were adults and 71,826 were children. This represents a significant 13.3% decrease in cases compared to the previous week. During this period, 129 COVID-19 cases were confirmed, and 3,412 patients were hospitalized, including 1,997 children. These figures are part of the ongoing monitoring of seasonal respiratory viruses, which are common during the winter and spring months.
Over the entire epidemic season, which runs from September 29, 2025, to March 29, 2026, a total of 3,459,202 people have been sick with ARVI. This marks a 9.1% decline in ARVI incidence compared to the same period last year. Since the start of the season, 21,678 COVID-19 cases have been registered. Current illness rates across all regions of Ukraine are at a baseline level of intensity.
Symptoms and Public Health Guidance

- Severe headache
- Dry cough
In contrast, COVID-19 symptoms often develop more gradually and may involve:

- Loss of smell or taste
Health authorities recommend the following actions at the first sign of illness:
- Contact your primary care physician
- Stay at home
- Use separate personal utensils
- Wash hands frequently
The decline in ARVI and COVID-19 cases in Ukraine may indicate the effectiveness of epidemic control measures and a shift in seasonal viral infection patterns.
Given the prolonged nature of the epidemic, it remains crucial for the public to follow medical advice and maintain vigilance, especially during periods of higher transmission. Continuous monitoring of the situation will help identify potential outbreaks and enable the implementation of necessary containment measures.
The recent decrease in respiratory illness cases in Ukraine aligns with trends observed in major cities. For instance, Kyiv has reported a notable decline in flu cases, suggesting that public health measures may be effectively curbing the spread of seasonal viruses. Monitoring these patterns is essential for understanding the broader implications for health across the country.
