Berehove District Council Deputy Faces Charges

A deputy of the Berehove District Council in Zakarpattia has been formally charged by the regional prosecutor's office. The charges include submitting a knowingly false declaration and laundering illicitly obtained income. The official failed to declare assets and income exceeding 8.3 million hryvnias in his 2022 declaration. This case is part of Ukraine's ongoing, high-stakes anti-corruption drive, which is a key condition for international support and future EU membership.

The undeclared assets identified by investigators include:

  • A Ford Mustang automobile held in joint ownership with his spouse;
  • Millions in unreported income and financial transactions related to the purchase and sale of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicle.

Journalist Vitalii Hlahol has identified the suspect as deputy Arsenii Bohar.

Undercover Operation by NABU and SAP

In a related undercover operation, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) uncovered a large-scale criminal scheme within the parliament. The organized group involved in this scheme reportedly included sitting Ukrainian Members of Parliament.

In a further development, NABU has again summoned suspected businessmen Timur Mindich and Oleksandr Zukerman for questioning. These events highlight the continued and intensified efforts by Ukrainian law enforcement to detect and investigate complex corruption networks.

This case underscores the critical importance of transparency and accountability for public officials in Ukraine, as corrupt acts can have severe consequences for society and the economy.

The continuation of such investigations and exposures signals the growing activity of anti-corruption bodies, representing a potentially significant step forward in the country's fight against systemic corruption.
