Revised Support for Bereaved Families

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Law No. 4682-IX, which reforms the system for providing monthly financial assistance to the families of citizens with special merits to the Motherland who have died. This legislation resolves previous legal ambiguities and establishes a clear procedure for distributing payments among multiple eligible family members. These new provisions come into effect on March 1.

Updated Payment Regulations

Under the new law, when several family members are eligible for support, the total benefit amount will be assigned and paid out to all recipients in equal shares. The monthly payment itself is being increased by 50%. Previously set at one minimum wage, the benefit will now be equivalent to one and a half times the minimum wage.

  • For parents, spouses, and children of deceased or missing defenders who receive state social assistance instead of a pension, the minimum payment per person rises from UAH 7,800 to UAH 12,810.
  • For other family members of fallen defenders who receive payments for several persons simultaneously (excluding parents and spouses), the minimum assistance per person increases from UAH 6,100 to no less than UAH 10,020.

The changes taking effect in March will significantly improve the financial security for the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, providing them greater support amid the hardships they face. This move underscores the state's commitment to ensuring proper social support for those who lost loved ones in the fight for the country's independence. The increased payments are a crucial step in aiding many families enduring profound loss due to the ongoing war, which has placed immense strain on Ukrainian society.
