Attack on Doctor Ihor Ilyin
On September 3rd, in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district, Ihor Ilyin, the director of the Institute of Reproductive Genetics, was targeted in a violent assault. The prominent physician suffered over 20 gunshot wounds during the attack and, despite the efforts of medical staff, succumbed to his injuries in intensive care. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM when an armed assailant lay in wait for Ilyin on the street. Following the shooting, the attacker fled the scene.
Investigation and Response
Authorities have initiated a criminal case under parts 2 of Article 15 and 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, classifying the event as an attempted premeditated murder. On September 8th, police apprehended a suspect connected to the assault in Kyiv.
Ihor Ilyin was 71 years old and widely respected as an obstetrician-gynecologist and reproductive specialist who helped thousands of women bring new life into the world. His death was announced by his colleague, Tamara Yuzko, director of the Medical Center for Infertility Treatment, who shared the following:

Yuzko emphasized that Ilyin’s legacy will live on in the memories of those he helped, as well as among his peers and students who will carry forward his work. She added:
