First-Grade Registration in Kyiv: Key Dates and Procedures for the 2026/2027 School Year

The enrollment period for first-grade students in Kyiv for the 2026/2027 academic year will commence on April 1, 2026, and remain open until June 1, 2026. The process for submitting applications and the list of required documents for enrollment have been officially announced. Children who reside within a school's designated catchment area will be given priority for admission. This annual registration process is a significant event for families across the Ukrainian capital.

Application Submission Methods

Parents or guardians have several options for submitting the necessary paperwork. Documents can be filed:

  • In person at the school;
  • Remotely via the Government Services Portal using the 'Child School Enrollment' service;
  • By email to the school's official address.

The required documentation for first-grade registration includes:

  • A completed enrollment application;
  • A copy of the child's birth certificate;
  • A medical certificate (Form № 086-1/o);
  • Proof of the child's or parents' residence within the school's service area.

Kyiv's schools currently serve nearly 264,000 students, with approximately 18,400 of them being first-graders. In a related national initiative, starting September 2026, all students from grades 1 through 11 across Ukraine will receive free school meals. The state budget for 2026 has allocated 14.4 billion hryvnias to fund this program. Priority for first-grade enrollment is granted to the following categories:

  • Children living within the school's service territory;
  • Children whose siblings already attend the school;
  • Children of the school's employees;
  • Graduates of the school's preschool division.

The launch of first-grade registration marks a crucial step for families preparing their children for primary education. The availability of multiple submission methods, including digital options, streamlines the process for parents. The introduction of universal free school meals further highlights broader governmental efforts to support families and improve the educational environment for school-aged children.
