Casualties on the Zaporizhzhia Front
Two servicewomen from the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade, named after General Mark Bezruchko, were killed while evacuating wounded soldiers on the Zaporizhzhia front. The tragedy occurred as a result of an enemy drone attack. Their funeral was held on February 16. The loss was reported by the company commander of the Ground Robotic Complexes (NRC) unit of the 110th Brigade, Serhii Volkov. The Zaporizhzhia region has been a focal point of intense fighting in the ongoing war.
Stories of the Fallen
One of the fallen servicewomen used the call sign 'Kara'. She had survived the occupation of the Kherson region, Russian filtration camps, and abuse in Taganrog before joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The other servicewoman killed was known as 'Lyza'. She was among the first to join her unit under a special contract for youth aged 18-24, mastered the operation of Ground Robotic Complexes (NRC), and worked actively on the front line.
This tragedy underscores the severe risks faced by Ukrainian personnel. In a separate incident on February 5, 2026, in the Donetsk region, Ostap Babii (call sign 'Stich'), the chief sergeant of a strike drone platoon in the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush, was also killed. The loss of each of these soldiers is a profound tragedy for their families and the entire nation.
These casualties highlight the complex and dangerous reality on the front lines, where troops continue their duties under constant threat. Such tragic deaths not only illustrate the high cost of war but also emphasize the importance of societal support and recognition for their efforts. With ongoing enemy activity, ensuring the safety of service members remains a critical issue requiring comprehensive measures from both the state and society.
