Zaporizhzhia Tragedy
A woman in Zaporizhzhia threw her eight-year-old daughter from a ninth-floor window before jumping herself. Both victims were hospitalized with severe injuries. Such incidents are exceptionally rare and highlight the critical need for accessible mental health support systems.
Police in Zaporizhzhia received a report of the incident from emergency medical personnel at 09:39 on January 19. The young girl sustained a combination of serious injuries, including:
- blunt trauma to the abdomen and chest,
- a closed head injury,
- a concussion,
- an open fracture of the left shoulder,
- soft tissue bruising on the left limb, and
- hypothermia.
The child's mother was also hospitalized with critical injuries.
Law enforcement officers are working at the scene to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. Authorities are deciding on the legal classification of the event. According to Iryna Kulesh, the child is currently in surgery, while the mother is also in an operating room as doctors work to stabilize her condition.
