The introduction of mandatory POS terminals for individual entrepreneurs of the first group has been officially postponed. The government decided to extend the deadlines until the end of martial law and another three months after its cancellation. This was reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.

The decision was made after appeals from representatives of small businesses, who emphasized that the costs of servicing payment terminals currently create an additional financial burden. For the smallest entrepreneurs, this is particularly critical amid the war, power outages, and complicated logistics.

The government notes that the postponement will allow individual entrepreneurs of the first group to continue operating without additional costs and to maintain income. At the same time, businesses will have more time to prepare for a gradual transition to cashless payments.

POS terminals for individual entrepreneurs: what is changing now

During the period of martial law, first group entrepreneurs will not be required to install payment terminals. A transitional period will also apply after its completion, to avoid sudden financial pressure on microbusinesses.

What options are anticipated in the future

After the postponement, entrepreneurs will be able to choose a convenient format for cashless payments on their own. Among the possible options:

  • classic POS terminals;

  • mobile payment applications;

  • QR codes for payment via phone.

This approach, according to the government, is intended to facilitate the adaptation of businesses to new requirements and make the transition less painful.

It is worth reminding that starting from the beginning of 2025, a requirement has emerged in Ukraine concerning the installation of payment terminals for cashless transactions. Now small businesses in small settlements are also required to accept card payments through terminals.
