The salaries of craftsmen in Kyiv have soared to 70 thousand: why repairs have become a luxury

Вартість послуг майстрів у столиці злетіла до рекордних рівнів: чому ремонт став недоступним задоволенням.

Rising costs of repair services in Kyiv

In Kyiv, there is an increase in the cost of repair work, which is associated with a shortage of qualified craftsmen and an increased demand for their services. The average salary for craftsmen has risen significantly, and now a tiler or electrician can earn between 45 and 70 thousand hryvnias per month. In some cases, electricians and climbers earn even more — over 70 thousand hryvnias.

The cost of repair services has risen to such levels that the installation of an Italian bathtub, priced at 1.3 million hryvnias, can cost clients around 140 thousand hryvnias. In the elite repair market, services account for about 10% of the equipment cost, which significantly increases the overall repair expenses. Concrete workers and bricklayers also have high incomes, earning from 60 thousand hryvnias per month.

Labor shortage and consequences for the market

Laborers, although earning less, still have earnings from 1,500 hryvnias per shift. The labor shortage allows craftsmen to pick clients, leading to longer waiting times for jobs to be completed. One realtor noted:

“Out of five craftsmen, we have one left — all the others have been mobilized”

As a result, the demand for services has increased, and prices have become 'astronomical'. Consequently, some craftsmen have a waiting list of two weeks in advance, indicating significant demand in the repair services market in the capital.

The rise in salaries and repair costs is making repair services in Kyiv increasingly expensive, turning them into a luxury for many residents of the capital.

The significant increase in the prices of repair services in Kyiv is caused not only by the rising wages of craftsmen but also by the shortage of qualified professionals in the market. In conditions of mobilization of some of the workforce, many specialists are leaving the market, leading to longer waiting times for job completion. This phenomenon may have long-term consequences for the real estate market and the overall state of the economy, as repairs are becoming unaffordable for many consumers.
