The Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada partially took into account amendment No. 1279 regarding the increase of monetary support for servicemen. The initial proposal to increase payments by 20% has become a directive for the government to review and increase salaries without a specified percentage. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
At the committee meeting, 24 deputies voted in favor of the amendment. However, this is not yet a final decision of the parliament and does not approve the new payment amounts. The initiative must go through further stages of the budget process.
Increase in Military Salaries: What Happened to the Amendment
Zheleznyak and his colleagues proposed to increase the minimum amount of monetary support for servicemen by at least 20% starting from January 1, 2027. The amendment was signed by representatives of various parliamentary factions and groups.
However, the committee partially took it into account as a directive to the Cabinet of Ministers. Zheleznyak clarified separately in the video that there is no specific percentage in the agreed decision. Therefore, it is premature to speak of a guaranteed increase of exactly 20% for now.
According to the deputy, two components are needed to increase payments: sufficient funding and changes to government decisions that determine the amounts of monetary support. An increase in budget expenditures does not automatically change the amount that a serviceman receives.
The deputy had also previously raised the issue of funding, assessing the need for funds for payments. Now, according to him, it is important to maintain the proposal supported by the committee during the budget consideration in parliament.
When Will the Issue of Military Payments Be Decided in 2027
According to Zheleznyak, the consideration of budget proposals in the session hall is expected to start on October 26. The deputy warned that the amendment taken into account by the committee could be put to a separate vote. Then, at least 226 member support will be needed to maintain it.
The next step will be the government's elaboration of the budget project. Even after parliamentary support, it will be necessary to ensure funding and adopt a government decision on the specific amounts of payments.
Thus, there is currently no final percentage increase, and January 1, 2027, is the date from the initial deputy proposal. The existing rules on monetary support for servicemen do not change solely due to the voting of the budget committee.
