The increase in financial support for Ukrainian military is possible only if several important conditions are met, some of which depend not only on Ukraine. This is what writes RBC-Ukraine.
Military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova stated that salary issues can only be resolved comprehensively. According to her, this is not a quick process and requires both internal changes and support from partners.
Military Salaries in Ukraine: What Conditions for Increase
The ombudsman named three key factors on which the review of payments depends:
-
support from international partners and recognition of the role of the Ukrainian army as part of Europe's security
-
optimization of internal state processes and expenses
-
willingness of society to sacrifice part of social benefits for the army.
According to Reshetilova, only a combination of these factors will allow for a real review of military financial support levels.
Army Financing: What Impedes Rapid Payment Growth
The ombudsman emphasized that budget constraints remain a key problem. In such conditions, the state is forced to seek resources through optimization of expenses.
«In the fifth year of full-scale war, we need to understand that we will have to give up something, but not our own military,» — she emphasized.
At the same time, she noted that expectations for quick changes do not reflect reality, as financial decisions require time and agreement at various levels.
Recently, a number of decisions have already been made in Ukraine to strengthen social protection for the military. In particular, changes to legislation concern service conditions, leave, and payments during the state of war.
Additionally, extra compensation has been introduced for military personnel who have suffered health damage during service.
Let us remind you that Olga Reshetilova pointed out that army financing in Ukraine depends on decisions from the European Union. She emphasized that the Ukrainian military plays a role in protecting European borders, and obviously, this needs to be paid for while the country is fighting external threats.
