Passengers of Lviv transport have had their work with electronic tickets in LeoCard simplified. After the application update, it became easier to activate several trips at once, and a special message reminds users to scan the QR code in the vehicle. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.
How the ticket activation process in LeoCard has changed in Lviv
In the updated version, the slider button “Swipe to activate the ticket” has been enlarged. Previously, passengers who purchased multiple tickets in one payment had to activate each one separately. Now, a counter and a single button are displayed on the screen.
The developers also added a validation reminder. After activating the ticket, the user must open the QR code and hold it up to the scanner at the top of the validator. Without this action, the trip payment will not be properly recorded.
The Lviv Transport Company explained that the innovation arose due to instances when passengers activated the ticket on their smartphone but did not scan it in the transport. During the update, the developers took into account the most common user feedback.
What functions of LeoCard are available to Lviv passengers
The LeoCard application was launched in December 2024, and throughout 2025, its capabilities were significantly expanded. Currently, over 188 thousand passengers use the service.
Through the application, users can:
buy tickets for 23 hryvnias;
transfer for free within 40 minutes;
purchase 30-day passes with unlimited trips;
plan routes with an optimal number of transfers.
Tickets and passes are valid on city buses, trams, and trolleybuses. The cost of a single trip through the application is the same as when paid with a regular LeoCard.
Cashless methods are already used by 93% of public transport passengers in Lviv. About 7% buy paper tickets from drivers. The popularity of electronic payments is explained by the lower price and the possibility of free transfers.
Recall that in Lviv, private carriers warned about the potential cessation of some bus routes. The reason cited is a sharp rise in fuel prices and the unprofitability of transport under the current tariff.
