A scandalous scheme of extortion has been uncovered in Transcarpathia: the deputy battalion commander organized systematic demands for bribes from his subordinates. This information became known thanks to the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the SBI, the official demanded bribes over an extended period for resolving various issues ranging from 30 thousand hryvnias to 3 thousand US dollars. Even resolving the issue of transfer to another unit was not cheap.
'During the implementation of one of the 'deals', the deputy commander offered a soldier, who returned after an unauthorized absence from the unit, to help with the transfer to a rear position for 1 thousand US dollars.'
The official's detention took place in April 2025 in cooperation with the military counterintelligence of the SBU. He is now accused of accepting bribes, which could lead to up to 10 years in prison with asset confiscation according to the legislation.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that one of the military officials abused his position by demanding bribes from subordinates for resolving even the simplest issues. This is a very serious violation, and an investigation is currently underway to establish all circumstances of this extortion scheme.
