Yurii Chernetskyi to Appear in Semifinal Match

The semifinal of Ukraine's Second League hockey championship is set for May 1, 2026, at 1:15 PM, featuring teams Zubr and Avtomobilist. In a controversial move, the ceremonial puck drop will be performed by Yurii Chernetskyi, better known by his alias Doctor Shower. The announcement was initially posted on Zubr's official Instagram page but was later deleted.

Chernetskyi has a troubled past. In 2022, the Boryspil City District Court sentenced him to five years in prison for drug trafficking under Part 1 of Article 307 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. An appellate court upheld the verdict. However, in July 2025, Ukraine's Supreme Court partially granted his appeal, overturning the conviction and securing his release.

Now free, Chernetskyi has also seen his bail reduced to 1 million hryvnias in a separate case—a sum he has already paid. According to Zubr's club statement,

"the ceremonial puck drop will be performed by Yurii Chernetskyi—also known as the famous blogger, showman, and influencer Doctor Shower."
Despite his criminal record, Chernetskyi is stepping back into the public eye through this sports event.

This decision appears to be a deliberate effort by Zubr to draw attention to the match, leveraging Chernetskyi's notoriety. At the same time, his return to public life after a drug conviction raises broader questions about societal reintegration and second chances. The puck drop could symbolize redemption—not only for Chernetskyi but for others facing similar struggles.
