Ukrzaliznytsia Warns of Security-Related Delays for Commuter Trains in Sumy and Chernihiv Regions

Укрзалізниця повідомляє про можливі затримки в роботі приміських поїздів у Сумській та Чернігівській областях через питання безпеки.

Commuter Train Delays in Sumy and Chernihiv Oblasts

Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, has announced delays affecting commuter trains in the Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts due to security concerns. These delays are a direct consequence of the current situation in these northern regions, which border Russia. Specifically impacted are the following services:

  • Train #6449 from Konotop to Nizhyn, delayed by 1.5 hours;
  • Train #6452 from Nizhyn to Konotop, delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes.
"For security reasons, we are delaying [trains] in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions," stated Ukrzaliznytsia.

Route Adjustments and Station Maintenance

Train movements are being conducted with the ongoing security situation in mind. Furthermore, Ukrzaliznytsia has implemented route adjustments for trains on certain sections in the Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts. Concurrently, repair work has begun on the stairs leading to the Northern Platform No. 2 at the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station, which may also affect train operations.

In a separate development aimed at strengthening rail infrastructure, the State Property Fund of Ukraine will take custody of 1,592 confiscated Russian freight wagons. These wagons are to be transferred for use by Ukrzaliznytsia. This move is intended to improve infrastructure and ensure the proper operation of rail transport in Ukraine.

The delays in the Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts highlight the challenging security environment in these regions, impacting both passenger mobility and freight logistics. The transfer of the confiscated wagons to Ukrzaliznytsia could represent a significant step in enhancing the efficiency of the country's railway system, which is vital for its economy and recovery efforts.

In light of the recent delays, it's essential for commuters to stay informed about service changes across the region. For instance, adjustments to suburban train schedules in Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy are also being implemented, reflecting the ongoing security challenges.
