Ukraine Sets New Wage Benchmarks to Determine Pension Payments

В Україні впроваджують нові критерії для розрахунку пенсійних виплат.

New Average Wage Figures Approved

On January 26, 2026, Ukraine's government approved new national average wage figures that will be used to calculate state pension payments. The average wage for December 2025 is set at 24,292 hryvnias and 88 kopiykas, while the average for the entire year of 2025 is 20,653 hryvnias and 55 kopiykas. These calculations are a standard part of the pension indexation process in many countries.

These benchmarks are applied according to Ukraine's 'Law on Mandatory State Pension Insurance,' which governs the formula for determining citizens' pension benefits. The approval of the new figures is a key step intended to improve the financial support for retirees across the nation.

Significance of the Updated Benchmarks

The establishment of new average wage indicators represents a significant move in Ukraine's ongoing pension system reforms. They are designed to enhance the level of social protection for pensioners, as benefit amounts are directly tied to these official statistics. This adjustment could positively impact the financial well-being of a substantial segment of the population, particularly amid the broader economic challenges facing the country. The reform aims to make pensions more responsive to changes in the national wage level.
