Major Overhaul of M-06 Highway Completed

Extensive repair work on the M-06 Kyiv-Chop highway, a major international route, has been finished within the Zhytomyr region. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, the last large-scale renovation of this corridor took place ahead of the Euro 2012 football championship, and the recommended period between repairs had expired for most sections. The M-06 is a critical transport artery, providing a vital link to Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland, making its restoration to proper drivable condition an urgent priority for regional connectivity.

Scale of Work and Its Importance

The scale of ongoing road repairs across Ukraine continues to expand rapidly. While daily repair volumes were 4,000–5,000 square meters during the winter, current output now exceeds 120,000 square meters per day. The goal is to further increase this volume to 200,000 square meters daily.

Oleksiy Kuleba stated: 'We are accelerating the pace of road repairs: the renovation of the Kyiv-Chop highway in Zhytomyr region is now complete.'

Road repair efforts are continuing in other regions of Ukraine. Leading regions in terms of completed repair work include:

  • Kirovohrad region (62.1%)
  • Mykolaiv region (54.6%)
  • Rivne region (48.6%)

Other key international routes are also slated for renovation. These include the M-03 Kyiv – Kharkiv – Dovzhansky, the M-14 Odesa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk, and the M-19 Domanove – Kovel – Chernivtsi – Terebleche.

Completing the M-06 overhaul is crucial for improving Ukraine's transport infrastructure and ensuring road safety. The significant increase in repair volumes highlights the state's intensified efforts to modernize the road network, which can positively impact the economic development of the regions these routes serve. The planned repairs of other international highways demonstrate a systematic approach to addressing the country's road surface issues, a critical need for both domestic logistics and international trade.

As road reconstruction efforts gain momentum, the government has allocated significant funding for further enhancements. For instance, an investment of 3 billion hryvnias has been earmarked for key routes across the country, ensuring that essential transport links receive the attention they need. This comprehensive approach to road repair not only aims to improve infrastructure but also supports economic growth in various regions.
