Preservation of reproductive cells by the military: over a thousand Ukrainians have utilized the service

The program for the preservation of reproductive cells for military personnel in Ukraine, implemented in 18 medical institutions across the country, has already gathered a significant number of volunteers. As of November 1, 2025, more than a thousand military personnel, specifically 1,029 individuals, have benefited from this free service, which is available during martial law. Notably, among them are 216 women and 813 men. The state finances this initiative through the National Health Service of Ukraine, making it accessible to military personnel:

  • National Guard of Ukraine (NGU)
  • State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS)
  • Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)
  • Security Service of Ukraine (SSU)
  • State Emergency Service (SES)

It is important to note that the program for the preservation of reproductive cells is implemented in accordance with the law of Ukraine No. 3496-IX. The Cabinet of Ministers has also adopted several resolutions, including No. 78 dated January 24, 2025, and No. 773 dated June 27, 2025, which regulate the conditions for providing this service. The procedure for obtaining the service is quite simple: interested military personnel submit a report to the commander of their unit, and the unit's doctor issues a referral to a healthcare facility within five working days.

Support for military personnel and their families

In addition, free preservation of reproductive cells lasts three years from the date of the military personnel's death, providing additional support and the opportunity for those who wish to preserve their genetic future in wartime conditions. This initiative has become an important step in ensuring the rights of military personnel and their families during difficult times.

The program not only helps to preserve genetic potential but also demonstrates the state's commitment to protecting the rights and interests of military personnel and their families. Given the high level of interest in this service, one can expect further expansion and improvement of the program, which may positively influence the morale of military personnel and their loved ones.
