Russian attack on the railway depot in Odesa on October 2, 2025
The situation is complicated against the backdrop of escalating Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. On the same day, October 2, the Russian Federation launched a massive strike on the railway depot in Odesa, injuring a train driver. The attacks also affected other regions: railway tracks and energy facilities in Sumy and Chernihiv were damaged, leading to local power outages.
According to the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, the enemy's new tactic - “Shaheds are hunting locomotives” - is aimed at paralyzing logistics to isolate the front from the rear.
What damages did Ukrzaliznytsia objects sustain in the fall of 2025
These events are not isolated: since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, systematic hits on the railway have aimed to disrupt the supply of weapons and humanitarian aid. Here are the key consequences of recent strikes:
-
Damage to the depot in Odesa: injury to one driver, delays for trains in the south.
-
Attacks in Sumy region: destruction of power grids, interruptions with electricity in frontline villages.
-
Strikes in Chernihiv region: railway bridges damaged, cargo movement complicated.
Ukrzaliznytsia has already strengthened security measures: introduced backup routes, expanded ticket office schedules, and optimized repair crews. According to the company, despite the attacks, 95% of trains are running on schedule, and the online system was restored on average in 2-3 hours in similar cases.
Experts predict that by the evening of October 2, services will be up and running, but they advise passengers to check updates on Telegram.
Earlier we reported that Ukrzaliznytsia is launching direct trains from Uzhhorod to Vienna and Budapest.
