The USA team won gold in the team tournament in figure skating at the 2026 Olympic Games, finishing just one point ahead of Japan. The decisive performance came from American Illia Malinin, who secured victory for his team in men's singles. This is reported by Football 24.

Before the final day, the Americans led by a narrow margin, and the battle for gold lasted until the last performance. In the end, the USA scored 69 points, Japan 68, and Italy took third place with 60 points.

Team tournament in figure skating at the 2026 Olympics

The decisive stage of the competition was reached by five teams: USA, Japan, Italy, Georgia, and Canada. After the short programs in four disciplines - men's and women's singles, pairs, and ice dance - the Americans led the Japanese by just one point.

In the free programs, the distribution of power was equal. The ice dance was won by Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who were the best in the rhythm dance. Japanese Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara won in pairs, while the highest score in women's singles went to Kaori Sakamoto.

Malinin's performance decided the fate of the gold

Before the men's singles, the USA and Japan both had 59 points. It was here that the fate of the team gold was decided: Illia Malinin achieved the best result and secured victory for the USA team in the overall ranking.

Final results of the team tournament:

  • USA - 69 points

  • Japan - 68

  • Italy - 60

  • Georgia - 56

  • Canada - 54.

Thus, the USA team secured victory in one of the key figure skating tournaments at the 2026 Games.
