Ukraine's Futsal Squad at Euro 2026

Ukraine's national futsal team will kick off its Euro 2026 campaign on January 22, 2026, facing Armenia in its opening match. This high-stakes tournament is a major event in the European futsal calendar. The game, set to be played at the Žalgiris Arena in Kaunas, will start at 5:00 PM Kyiv time and will be broadcast live on the Megogo television channel. This match marks Ukraine's first step in Group B, which also includes Lithuania and the Czech Republic.

Armenia is one of three teams making its debut at this European Championship, adding an element of unpredictability to the fixture. The Ukrainian squad will be without key players Rostyslav Semenchenko and Andrii Melnyk, a significant setback for the team's plans. Captain Petro Shoturma, who has returned to the lineup after a serious injury, is hopeful for a strong performance. Head coach Oleksandr Kosenko remarked:

"Even though our opponents may be lower-ranked, our team will be prepared for a serious battle."

Kosenko emphasized the critical nature of match preparation, stating that his players are seasoned professionals who have repeatedly proven their ability to compete at the highest level. He also expressed confidence that Shoturma's experience would be a major asset for the team during the championship. Consequently, the Ukrainian futsal team is approaching Euro 2026 with a determined and serious mindset, ready to meet the challenges ahead.

The Significance of the Opening Match

This opening fixture represents a crucial milestone for the Ukrainian team, as a victory could provide a substantial confidence boost for the remainder of the tournament. Given the absence of pivotal players, the squad will need to adapt its tactics and find new strategies to secure success. Despite these challenges, expectations for a positive result remain high, based on the team's overall preparation and depth of experience.
