The Ukrainian team at the World Wrestling Championship
Our wrestlers have been without medals at the World Championship for the second year in a row. This time, the competition took place in Zagreb (Croatia).
Ukrainian freestyle wrestlers did not win any medals at this tournament. The best result for our team was reaching the quarter-finals. This was achieved by Kamil Kerymov (up to 57 kg), Andrii Biliichuk (up to 65 kg), and Vasyl Mykhailov (up to 79 kg).
In the overall team standings, Ukraine took 11th place (the results of Russians and Belarusians were not counted).
The last time our wrestlers received an award at the World Championship was in 2023, when Vasyl Mykhailov became the bronze medalist.
As for the women's team, Alla Belinska won a gold medal in the final of the weight category up to 72 kg, defeating a representative of Turkey. This was the second award for the Ukrainian team at the World Championship. It is worth noting that Belinska became the first Ukrainian world champion in the last seven years.
Iryna Kolyadenko (up to 65 kg) and Anastasiia Alpieieva (up to 76 kg) were very close to winning medals but lost in the matches for the 'bronze'.
The Ukrainian wrestlers at the World Wrestling Championship in Zagreb could not win any medals, but Alla Belinska became the world champion in her weight category, winning a gold medal. Undoubtedly, this is a significant achievement for Ukrainian sports, but overall, the Ukrainian team did not impress at this tournament, remaining without awards in the overall team standings.
