Drivers have been warned about a new green speed limit sign in Great Britain. This was reported by the publication 'Khvylya'.
An unusual road sign has appeared on the country's roads - a white circle with the allowable speed, outlined in green, which has a recommended nature. Violating the recommendation does not impose any responsibility on the driver for the consequences of an accident.
If a red frame indicates a mandatory requirement, for violation of which fines and penalties are imposed, then the green version only suggests to the driver the optimal speed for a specific section.
The new signs are installed near schools, in residential areas, on narrow streets, and near popular cycling routes. The aim of these signs is to reduce the risk of accidents in areas with a high number of pedestrians or cyclists.
According to British road agencies, the introduction of green signs in certain areas has led to a reduction in the number of traffic accidents by an average of 10-15%. However, on safe roads, drivers often ignore such recommendations.
The impact and risks of new signs
In Ukraine, different methods are used to reduce speed on the roads. So far, there are no similar practices as in Great Britain. However, the experience of other countries shows that recommended methods can be effective in reducing the number of accidents and saving lives.
However, the use of green color in the new road sign may cause confusion among drivers. Such risks may arise from the association with a green traffic light or the inexperience of drivers in recognizing new signs.
New green speed limit signs have been installed in Great Britain, which are of a recommended nature. They are intended to reduce the number of traffic accidents in areas with pedestrians and cyclists. Currently, other countries, including Ukraine, are expressing interest in implementing similar methods, but there are certain risks, such as the possibility of confusion among drivers due to the green color of the new signs.
