Ukrainian President's Warning

In a recent interview with NBC's Meet the Press, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed deep concern over the potential consequences if the United States were to officially back Russia. He warned that such a move would cripple Ukraine’s ability to prevail and endure in the ongoing conflict. Zelensky highlighted that the absence of sanctions on Russia, the diesel deal, and restrictions on Starlink operations give the impression of significant backing for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Battlefront Realities and Ukraine’s Defense Challenges

Zelensky noted that Russia has yet to achieve any battlefield victories and is expected to fail in all its operations through 2026.

“This only strengthens Putin’s war against us because he senses success,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Despite substantial support from the US and Europe, Ukraine continues to struggle with air defense shortages, particularly a lack of missiles for Patriot and other air defense systems.

The president also voiced apprehension about possible disputes surrounding Russian gas supplies and frozen assets.

“We fear issues will arise regarding Russian gas and the frozen assets,” Zelensky stated.
He emphasized that without US backing, Ukraine’s position would be severely weakened. “Whether we win depends on our people, but if the United States sides with Putin, it would be an incredible tragedy and a historic mistake,” he warned.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied any US involvement in Starlink disruptions, adding that former President Donald Trump is requesting 60 days to assess the impact of sanctions and tariffs on the economy. Trump himself has supported lifting sanctions on Russia, calling it a “very good decision” for both the country and the world. This has intensified the already tense atmosphere surrounding international support for Ukraine and Russia, with potentially serious regional consequences.

President Zelensky’s statements underscore Ukraine’s critical reliance on global allies, especially the United States. His appeals highlight how shifts in Washington’s foreign policy could profoundly influence the conflict’s trajectory and regional stability. As tensions rise, continued international support remains essential for Ukraine’s fight to maintain its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As the situation evolves, Zelensky's concerns are echoed in his response to Trump's recent remarks regarding the cessation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
