Zelenskyy and Trump Set for Talks at NATO Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed optimism about a constructive dialogue with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting is scheduled for July 8 on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara. Key discussion points will include:

  • strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities;
  • supplies of interceptor missiles.

Zelenskyy arrived in Ankara on July 7 for the NATO summit, which gathers leaders from all 32 member states. He also unveiled a new anti-ballistic missile coalition and invited partners to join the Drone Deal initiative.

“We are working. Today we already saw the first results: this is the anti-ballistic missile coalition,” he stated.

Focus on Military Achievements

Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine eliminates approximately 30,000 Russian soldiers each month, adding that these losses are inflicted largely through drone strikes. He emphasized that there is no major Russian oil refinery that has not been targeted by Ukrainian drones or missiles.

“Combat-ready, operational, and fierce! President Trump should always see a fighter’s spirit,” Zelenskyy added.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian president urged allies to support licensed production of the Patriot system within Ukraine and to accelerate the development of a European missile defense shield. Analysts note that Zelenskyy’s stance appears more confident than a year ago, signaling his growing influence on the global stage. This NATO summit meeting underscores the critical role of international backing for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian military aggression. Cooperation with the U.S., especially on defense technologies, could significantly bolster Ukraine’s regional position. Zelenskyy’s rising assertiveness reflects his push to more actively engage global partners, potentially improving the country’s security outlook.

As Zelenskyy prepares for crucial discussions on defense, he is also focusing on strengthening Ukraine's position within Europe. This week marks a significant period for Ukraine, with intensive negotiations regarding EU accession taking place.
