Ukraine’s Diplomatic Push
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled a week packed with diplomatic activity. The European Union has confirmed it is ready to open the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine, while Kyiv is prepared to open six clusters simultaneously. Zelenskyy’s address came at the close of the 1,571st day of the war, where he stressed the need for swift progress on European integration.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa, and also congratulated Moldova on its EU accession progress. He noted that the active phase of diplomatic efforts will begin on Monday, and voiced hope for achieving more substantial results on European integration as early as this summer.
“At least on our side, there will be no delays. And it is very important that partners also fully grasp the significance of this process.” – Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Discussions at International Summits
Zelenskyy also plans to raise these issues at the G7 summit in France, the European Council summit, and the NATO summit in Ankara. He emphasized that “the fate of Europe is being decided here, in Ukraine, in this war, and in how this war ends.” On the military front, the Security Service of Ukraine struck targets in temporarily occupied Crimea, and the Ukrainian army hit oil facilities in Russia’s Volgograd and Krasnodar regions.
Zelenskyy also noted that security challenges from Russia are long-term, as Moscow has chosen an anti-European and anti-democratic strategy, while the war must be concluded with dignity and guaranteed security.
- Discussion of new sanctions against Russia
- Support for Ukrainian air defense and long-range capabilities
- The 'Drone Deals' format
Zelenskyy’s announced diplomatic push reflects Ukraine’s intensified foreign policy activity amid the ongoing war with Russia. Opening six negotiation clusters could mark a major step toward deeper integration into European structures, addressing security and economic stability challenges. Talks on new sanctions and military support at international summits underscore Ukraine’s active pursuit of allies in its fight for independence and territorial integrity.
As Ukraine intensifies its diplomatic efforts, it is noteworthy that Zelenskyy's recent discussions with Trump associates at Chișinău Airport highlight the ongoing international engagement surrounding Ukraine's EU aspirations. These conversations may play a crucial role in shaping the support Ukraine receives during this pivotal week.
