Ukraine-US Negotiations and Fresh Agreements
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, briefed President Volodymyr Zelensky on meetings with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, special representatives of the American leader. The discussions tackled core issues, including prisoner exchanges, potential formats for leadership summits aimed at ending Russian Federation aggression, and Drone Deals with other nations. This diplomatic push comes as Ukraine seeks to strengthen its position amid ongoing conflict.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine maintains daily communication with US officials, who have stepped in as mediators on prisoner swaps. Lists of prisoners for exchange have already been handed over to the American side.
“It’s crucial that America remains engaged in diplomacy and has specifically mediated the prisoner exchange issue. Contacts are ongoing at the necessary level to finalize the exchange configuration.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
Moreover, the meetings revealed that around 20 countries have already expressed interest in Drone Deals with Ukraine. Four agreements have been signed, with initial contracts now being prepared under these pacts.
“Thanks to these agreements, Ukraine is now guaranteed its first energy results—the necessary volume of fuel on the Ukrainian market is being secured.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
Zelensky also unveiled plans for a new security partnership with another global region, building on existing ties with the Middle East, the Gulf, the South Caucasus, and Europe. “We are preparing news—positive for Ukraine,” he emphasized.
Diplomatic Efforts and Negotiation Conditions
Meanwhile, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has set a condition for direct talks with Zelensky. He is willing to meet in Moscow or a third country but stated that direct contact would only happen at the stage of signing a final peace treaty. This statement highlights ongoing diplomatic maneuvering from both sides as they explore paths to a peaceful resolution.
These Ukraine-US negotiations, alongside Putin’s remarks, underscore active efforts by both parties to de-escalate the conflict. Prisoner exchanges and new international agreements like Drone Deals could significantly impact Ukraine’s situation and its foreign relations. Continued diplomatic contacts may signal attempts to find common ground in a relationship that remains tense.
