Zelensky: Moscow’s Security Demands to Be Addressed Post-War; Technical Talks Scheduled in Abu Dhabi This November

Відповідь на вимоги Москви щодо безпеки буде знайдена після завершення війни, технічні перемовини заплановані в Абу-Дабі цього листопада.

President Zelensky’s Statement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Western nations will only consider Russia’s security demands after the conflict ends and Ukraine’s needs are fully met. This was reported by the website 'Khvylia' citing the Financial Times. Zelensky highlighted that Russia’s demands on security guarantees have the potential to reshape the security landscape of both Europe and the wider world.

Role of International Allies

Speaking to the press in Kyiv, Zelensky stressed that decisions involving the withdrawal of NATO infrastructure or reducing Alliance presence belong solely to NATO member states.

"Any rollback in security is a sign of weakness for the Alliance," he warned.
The president also mentioned indications of a potential US troop reduction in Europe and underscored Europe’s crucial role in discussions around security guarantees and post-war agreements.

Zelensky further noted that Ukraine is open to discussing conceptual issues with Russia through US mediation. However, he made it clear that any decisions requiring European involvement cannot be made without their participation. Technical talks involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia are planned for early November in Abu Dhabi, focusing on de-escalation, halting attacks on energy infrastructure, and maritime security.

The president’s remarks highlight the essential role of global partners in shaping security guarantees for the post-conflict period. The upcoming discussions in Abu Dhabi may prove pivotal in charting the region’s future security approach, especially regarding conflict de-escalation and stability in Europe. The active engagement of the US and other Western countries in these negotiations reflects their commitment to resolving the ongoing crisis on the continent.

As the situation evolves, the potential for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin is gaining attention, especially with the backdrop of ongoing US-supported negotiations. This context is crucial for understanding the broader implications of security discussions, which are further explored in our article on the advancements in US-backed talks and the 'Freya' defense initiative. These developments may significantly influence the region's stability.
