Update of the State Bureau of Investigations

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, instructed to prepare proposals for the update of the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI). He expressed hope that the bill regarding the improvement of the SBI's work will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada in January.

The bill No. 13602, which was registered in the Verkhovna Rada in August 2025, provides for a number of changes. In particular, it includes:

  • dismissal of the head of the SBI;
  • selection of a new head through a transparent competition;
  • launch of re-certification commissions and the recruitment of new staff;
  • introduction of other control mechanisms.
'I expect that the presidential bill will be drafted already in January and promptly submitted to the parliament.' Volodymyr Zelensky

The update of the State Bureau of Investigations is an important step in the context of reforming law enforcement agencies in Ukraine, which is part of the overall strategy to increase transparency and accountability of state institutions. The changes proposed in the bill can significantly influence the quality of investigations and the public's trust in the SBI, which is especially relevant in the face of the modern challenges that the country is facing.
