Regional Situation Following Overnight Strikes

Following overnight Russian missile strikes targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency meeting. Based on intelligence indicating Russia is preparing another massive attack, Zelenskyy directed the Air Force command, the Ministry of Defense, and Ukrenergo to prepare additional defensive measures. These strikes are part of a sustained Russian campaign against Ukraine's power grid, which has caused widespread blackouts.

Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Ukrenergo head Vitalii Zaichenko were tasked with preparing the necessary protective measures within the day. This urgent directive was prompted by intelligence data pointing to a renewed threat of Russian attacks. Ukraine's air defense systems were reported to have performed effectively during the previous night's assault.

Humanitarian Aid Discussions

The meeting also addressed the situation in several key regions:

  • Kharkiv and region
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Poltava and region
  • Sumy region
  • Kropyvnytskyi and region
  • Kyiv and region
  • Ternopil

President Zelenskyy instructed the government to expand the delivery of humanitarian aid to Kharkiv under the 'warmth packages' program. The overall supply level for this initiative is expected to reach approximately 90,000 units.

Every Russian missile is the aggressor's answer to calls for ending the war. That is precisely why we insist: only with sufficient pressure on Russia and clear security guarantees for Ukraine can this war truly be ended.

The presidential meeting underscores Ukraine's continued active preparations for potential new Russian offensives, requiring coordinated efforts from all defense structures. Amid persistent threats from the aggressor, it is critical not only to ensure adequate protection for critical infrastructure but also to organize humanitarian assistance for affected regions. These measures are vital for mitigating the impact on civilians and enhancing the nation's readiness to repel further attacks.
