President Zelensky and Ursula von der Leyen Hold Phone Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on financing Ukraine’s defense efforts and enhancing its overall security resilience. A key topic was the proposal to repurpose remaining funds from the SAFE program to support new defense initiatives jointly implemented by Ukraine and the European Union.
Both leaders also addressed the preparation of measures aimed at overcoming challenges related to funding Ukraine’s defense. Zelensky described the plan to allocate leftover SAFE funds as
“very timely and genuinely necessary”. He emphasized the critical nature of this initiative and expressed willingness to collaborate on additional security proposals that could bolster Europe’s collective defense capabilities.
