Zelensky and Trump had a 40-minute conversation about air defense, Russian strikes, and paths to peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone conversation on July 4, 2025, on Independence Day in the United States. The conversation lasted about 40 minutes and was described by the Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak as 'very important and substantive.'


Zelensky in his social media message called the conversation 'very important and useful,' congratulating Trump and the American people on Independence Day and expressing gratitude for the support provided. 'We in Ukraine are grateful for all the support that allows us to save lives and maintain our independence,' emphasized Zelensky.

The main topics of the conversation were Russian air strikes and issues related to the supply of air defense systems for Ukraine. According to Zelensky, President Trump is well aware of the situation in Ukraine and discussed options for enhancing sky protection.


The leaders also addressed issues of the defense industry and joint production. Conducting mutual procurements and investments, the diplomatic situation, and joint work with other partners were also included in the agenda of the conversation.



During the phone conversation between the Presidents of Ukraine and the U.S., important issues regarding security and cooperation between the countries were discussed, particularly Russian air strikes and defense industry matters. The meeting of these leaders is an important step for further development of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States.
