Dialogue Between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on the evening prior. The conversation was announced through Zelensky’s official Telegram channel. Key points included plans for a future meeting in New York, alongside discussions on security concerns and efforts to reduce tensions.
Zelensky described the exchange as significant, noting that many important topics were covered.
“We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting has the potential to bring substantial changes. There is a diplomatic momentum,”he said. The Ukrainian leader highlighted the importance of de-escalation strategies and core security challenges such as energy security, food safety, and protecting civilian lives.
“We are collaborating closely with the American team and are prepared to take serious steps forward,”Zelensky added.
Sanctions Legislation and Key Figures in the Discussions
The talks also touched upon the sanctions law introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham, which President Trump signed last week. Known as HR 5334 or the “Lindsey Graham Act on Sanctions Against Russia and Iran in 2026,” the law was enacted on September 18, 2020, and is now in effect. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the U.S. president for endorsing the legislation, emphasizing, “We all agree: peace is essential.”
Other participants in the discussions included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who recently visited Kyiv to engage on critical issues. It’s important to note that no meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the UN General Assembly has been scheduled at this time.
This upcoming encounter between the Ukrainian and American presidents represents a potentially pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral relations, especially amid ongoing regional security challenges.
