Ukrainian President’s Visit to the G7 Gathering

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to attend the Group of Seven summit scheduled for late June in Évian-les-Bains, France. According to a report by Politico, republished by Glavkom, France has altered its position regarding an invitation for the Ukrainian leader. Citing three officials familiar with the summit preparations, sources indicate Zelenskyy will join the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Key Topics on the Agenda

During the meeting, Ukraine’s president intends to address military diplomacy and the strengthening of air defense capabilities. The goal of bolstering air defenses is to counter Russian ballistic missile strikes. The Élysée Palace declined to comment on the publication’s inquiry about Zelenskyy’s participation. Earlier, in March, a French presidential adviser had stated that the Ukrainian leader was not invited to the G7 summit.

It is worth noting that the summit was originally planned for June 15–17. France holds the G7 presidency in 2026. Following recent Russian strikes on nuclear infrastructure, Paris launched a fundraising effort to restore the protective shelter at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. At the previous G7 summit in Canada in June 2025, Zelenskyy already secured agreements on:

  • increased military support;
  • new tranches funded by frozen Russian assets;
  • additional sanctions against Russia;

He also urged partners to ramp up deliveries of air defense systems and establish their production in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s trip to the G7 underscores the critical role of international backing for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression. His presence among leaders of the world’s largest economies could help reinforce military cooperation and secure further resources for Ukraine’s defense. Given recent attacks on vital infrastructure, the push for enhanced air defense is especially urgent—a reflection of the global community’s continued commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty.

In light of Zelenskyy's upcoming participation in the G7 summit, it is essential to consider his recent diplomatic engagements. Notably, he has been actively involved in discussions with leaders from the UK, France, and Germany, focusing on strengthening military alliances and securing additional support for Ukraine. These talks illustrate the ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities amidst escalating tensions.
