Ukraine's President Holds Daily Security Briefing

During his daily security briefing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the Air Force's effectiveness in countering kamikaze drones. He stated that their performance in certain Ukrainian regions was unsatisfactory. Zelenskyy discussed with the Air Force commander and the Minister of Defense which immediate measures must be implemented to more effectively shoot down Shahed drones. This comes amid a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

As of February 6, 2026, the energy and logistical situation remains tense. In Kyiv alone, over 1,200 residential buildings across various districts are still without heating. The president instructed officials to utilize digital tools to identify and analyze the specific, real-time needs of affected people and communities, stressing the importance of support for residents in these buildings.

Assessing Damage to Railway Infrastructure

The briefing also covered the consequences of strikes on railway infrastructure. The head of Ukrzaliznytsia reported on the impact of Russian attacks on logistics, noting that such strikes have not ceased for a single day, with a significant increase in Russian assaults specifically targeting railways recorded in January. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to railway workers for their rapid repairs and for maintaining rail operations.

Reports were also given on energy restoration and support for people in the Kharkiv region. The Energy Minister outlined the schedule for commissioning cogeneration facilities. The Prime Minister of Ukraine reported on the implementation of government support programs, including a program for thermal packages, noting plans to expand this initiative.

The discussions at the briefing underscore the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces during the war, particularly in the spheres of defense and energy.

The growing number of attacks on critical infrastructure requires the government not only to make operational decisions but also to refine its response systems to ensure the safety and comfort of the population. Supporting people affected by the lack of heating and other consequences of hostilities remains a state priority under wartime conditions.
