Zelenskyy Commends Security Service Personnel

On March 25, 2026, which coincided with Ukraine's Security Service Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented state awards to members of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). He expressed gratitude for their work, specifically highlighting successful operations on Russian territory and efforts to counter sabotage within Ukraine. This recognition underscores the critical role of intelligence and special operations in modern warfare.

Operational Successes of Ukraine's Security Service

Since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, SBU operatives have been instrumental in frontline combat, destroying significant amounts of Russian military hardware. Their confirmed battlefield achievements include:

  • over two thousand tanks;
  • more than 4,500 artillery systems;
  • over 700 air defense units.

In the past year alone, the SBU has executed dozens of unique special operations that have substantially impacted the military situation. President Zelenskyy stated:

“We all rejoice in your deep strikes on enemy territory, and particularly in the results against the Russian oil industry—this is something that lifts the spirits of all Ukraine. Your combat work on the front line is something we can only be proud of.”

Zelenskyy also emphasized the importance of SBU operations in the Black Sea, which have helped protect against Russian warships and counter threats related to the Kerch Bridge, often referred to as 'Putin's bridge'. He added:

“I thank you for the operations in the Black Sea—both for protection from Russian warships and against Putin's bridge. Thank you for Pavlina, which has entered the global history of special operations. And I want to separately note your work in countering Russian sabotage here, in the Ukrainian rear.”

The awards ceremony marked a significant step in acknowledging the Security Service's efforts in countering aggression and ensuring state security. This public recognition highlights the agency's evolving role from a traditional security body to an active participant in hybrid warfare. The honors bestowed not only celebrate past achievements but are also intended to motivate continued work and the implementation of new security strategies. The special operations mentioned by the President demonstrate the high level of training and professionalism within Ukrainian special services, which remains critically important for maintaining regional stability.

The recent commendation from President Zelenskyy highlights not only the valor of the Security Service of Ukraine but also the broader implications of their operations on the battlefield. To understand the strategic importance of these missions and the ongoing efforts to counteract sabotage within Ukraine, it is essential to explore the key operations and their impact during wartime. This context reveals how these actions contribute to the overall security and stability of the nation amidst ongoing conflict.
