Ukraine-NATO Council Meeting
Speaking at the Ukraine-NATO Council in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Russian army is suffering heavy casualties, losing between 30,000 and 35,000 troops each month. He stated that 63% of these are fatalities, while the remaining 37% are severely wounded. Zelenskyy also pointed out that Russia achieved almost no meaningful battlefield gains in May, a development he considers highly significant for the frontline situation.
“You can all see that Ukraine’s positions at the front are strong and that we are gradually reclaiming occupied territory. In May, Russia achieved almost no significant results on the battlefield,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
Ukrainian Forces’ Successes
The Ukrainian president also highlighted successes in striking Russian logistics. 'We have also achieved very important results thanks to our mid-range and deep strikes. Russia is facing an obvious fuel shortage in the temporarily occupied territories and in parts of central Russia, as well as serious disruptions in its logistics,' he noted.
In Zelenskyy’s view, Russia now has only one significant argument left: ballistic missiles. 'And now Russia has only one, last, argument left—ballistic missiles,' the president added.
The Ukraine-NATO Council meeting was also attended by a key figure in this context: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. His presence underscores the importance of supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. The statements from Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the NATO chief reflect a shared interest in strengthening security and stability in the region, as well as continuous monitoring of the battlefield situation.
These remarks by the Ukrainian president highlight not only Ukraine’s current military successes but also the critical role of international support, particularly from NATO. The mounting losses of the Russian army may indicate a shift in the balance of power at the front, which is crucial for the conflict’s further trajectory. The NATO secretary general’s participation also emphasizes joint efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and ensure regional stability.
As the situation evolves on the battlefield, Zelenskyy has identified a significant threat posed by Russia's missile capabilities, warning that the country launches approximately 120 missiles each month. This concern underscores the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces despite its recent military successes.
