President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Statement
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly disagreed with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s assertion that the war cannot be ended through diplomatic means. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has never been trapped in a dead-end, not even on the first day of the full-scale invasion. He highlighted that solutions exist, particularly through increased pressure on Russia, the implementation of robust sanctions, and assistance in controlling Ukraine’s airspace.
He urged for a complete economic blockade of Russia and insisted on sanctioning Russian weaponry.
“Shut down their entire economy. Muzzle Russia! Stop feeding them with your sales! Simply impose sanctions on their weapons!” – Volodymyr Zelensky
The President also called for the deployment of the Starlink satellite system in Ukraine, citing its proven effectiveness during the Israeli strike on Iran, when Israel maintained air control over Iranian territory.
Concerns Over China’s Role
Zelensky warned about China’s development of a Starlink alternative, which they are reportedly providing to Russia, potentially escalating the conflict further. “I am straightforward with them: Chinese representatives are manufacturing a Starlink substitute. They are getting closer and handing it over to Russia,” he stressed.
He appealed to the United States to assist Ukraine in securing its airspace, stressing that this is a matter of defense. “It costs them nothing! Nothing to help Ukraine!” Zelensky added.
The Ukrainian leader believes that gaining air superiority would compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table. “I have been frank: give us the means, help us defend the sky and dominate it! Then Putin will sit down to negotiate. Why? Because he will lose everything. In two or three months, everything will be lost!” he explained.
Zelensky underscored that the current situation is not a diplomatic deadlock but a reflection of unwillingness to resolve the conflict. “We are waiting for the Chinese to finish their alternative and hand it to the Russians. So where is the truth, where is the honesty? What dead-end? There is no dead-end. This is called unwillingness,” he concluded.
These statements highlight Zelensky’s determination to continue pursuing a resolution to the conflict with Russia despite challenging circumstances. His emphasis on international support and sanctions reflects a strategic approach to negotiations. Ukraine’s refusal to accept the situation as hopeless could influence the global community to take more decisive action in backing Ukraine’s sovereignty.
