Statement by Volodymyr Zelensky on the cessation of strikes
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready for a cessation of strikes on Moscow until the end of Saturday, as well as on Sunday and Monday. The president expressed hope that during these days Russia would not strike Kyiv. In his social media, Zelensky noted:
"From now until the end of this day of Saturday, on Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow, and we expect that the Russians will refrain from striking Kyiv." - Volodymyr Zelensky
Zelensky also reported that he had communicated with representatives of the U.S. president, who have already begun working with the Russian side. "We just spoke with representatives of the American President. They have already started working with the Russian side today. From this moment of our conversation, we are ready to adhere to the cessation of airstrikes against the cities involved in the negotiation process," he said.
The situation at the front and diplomatic measures
The president listened to reports from Defense Minister Yevheny Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyy about the situation at the front, threats in the airspace, and defensive operations. In Kyiv, a plan for diplomatic measures was approved for the next day with the participation of the American team, with the arrival of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner expected.
Kyrylo Budanov reported that Ukraine had already offered Russia a ceasefire not only in the air but also at the front. The proposal was personally conveyed to Vladimir Putin, but there was no response from Moscow. The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that the silence regime cannot be unilateral or asymmetrical. Earlier this week, there were also reports of a ballistic strike on Kyiv.
These statements by the President of Ukraine indicate attempts to establish a dialogue and reduce tensions between the countries. Importantly, these initiatives come amid active negotiations with the American side, which may signify support for Ukraine in its pursuit of stability. It is expected that the results of these efforts could influence the further course of the conflict and relations between Ukraine and Russia.
In light of the ongoing diplomatic efforts, Zelensky's discussions with U.S. representatives may significantly influence the situation. For further insights on the planned visit to Ukraine by Trump’s envoys, which could play a crucial role in shaping future negotiations, see more details here.
