Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that formal negotiations with Russia will be postponed until the conclusion of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Later this September, Ukraine’s delegation is scheduled to meet with U.S. officials in New York to discuss critical issues including the ongoing blockade of grain exports through the Black Sea, as well as energy-related challenges.
Zelensky expressed optimism about more open dialogue following his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. He emphasized the global significance of the food export blockade, highlighting it as a major challenge not only for Ukraine and Russia but for the international community as a whole.
“Everyone understands that blocking food supplies is a huge challenge for the world and its people,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
In addition to these discussions, Zelensky has engaged with representatives from Egypt, India, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. He stressed that progress largely depends on Russia’s willingness to be flexible and expressed skepticism about Moscow’s readiness to cooperate.
“Strong global leaders can pressure them to take the right stance, even if they don’t want to,” Zelensky added.
It’s important to recall that Ukrainian grain exports have declined threefold, with reported attacks on grain shipments near Novorossiysk and Tuapse. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has also voiced concerns regarding the ongoing food security crisis.
