Address by the President of Ukraine
On May 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced during his evening address that new long-range operations targeting Russia had been given the green light. This decision came out of a meeting with Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov. Zelensky also held a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where key European security issues were discussed. This marks a significant escalation in Ukraine's military strategy.
In his speech, the President revealed plans to develop a new EU framework called the Drone Deal. Additionally, Zelensky prepared and sent a letter to the U.S. President and Congress addressing the situation in Ukraine. The correspondence was forwarded to institutions in Washington.
Developments in Russia and European Security
The address also highlighted signs of covert mobilization inside Russia, including the distribution of draft notices and the convening of military assemblies. According to Zelensky,
“This is necessary so that Russia begins to feel that war will cost them losses. Russia’s oil industry will continue to shrink if Russia chooses war.”
Furthermore, it was noted that the Russian occupation force has been reduced in size. Zelensky stressed that
“Without Ukraine, European security is unimaginable,”underscoring the need for cooperation between Ukraine and its international partners to ensure regional stability.
He added, “As long as Russia relies on missiles, its interest in diplomacy is not genuine. We must correct this. And we can only do it together, with America.”
