Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Interview

In an interview on POLITICO's YouTube channel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised alarms about a critical shortage of air defense systems in his country and expressed concern over early signs that Western energy sanctions against Russia might be weakened. He specifically highlighted discussions that could potentially ease restrictions on Russian oil and gas. These warnings come at a time when sustained military and economic pressure on Russia is widely seen as crucial to Ukraine's defense.

"We are seeing the first signals regarding thoughts about weakening sanctions on energy—primarily on Russian oil and gas," Zelenskyy noted.

On security matters, the president emphasized the urgent need for more air defense capabilities. To address this and bolster collective security, he proposed the creation of joint European defense forces, which would strengthen both Ukraine's and Europe's defensive posture. Kyiv is also hoping to finalize an agreement with American manufacturers for drones, a move expected to significantly enhance defensive effectiveness.

Furthermore, Zelenskyy announced that three Ukrainian technical teams have been dispatched to the Middle East to share their hard-earned expertise.

"We understand what needs to be done, we have the technology and the experience," he added, underscoring Ukraine's readiness for cooperation and the implementation of new defense technologies.
The president believes these steps are vital for ensuring national security amid ongoing contemporary threats.

Zelenskyy's comments on energy sanctions point to potential shifts in the international stance toward Russia, which could impact Ukraine's economic stability. His initiative for a unified European defense force also highlights the growing importance of international security cooperation. In the context of the persistent threat from Russia and regional instability, these actions could prove critically important for Ukraine's future.
