Volodymyr Zelensky’s Statements on the Situation in Ukraine
Ukraine intends to keep responding to Russian attacks by enforcing fair long-range sanctions, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. He suggested that some of the drones spotted over Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia might be Ukrainian, with their paths altered by Russian forces. However, Zelensky clarified that these incidents were isolated and neutralized through electronic warfare systems.
Peace Talks and Associated Risks
The Ukrainian leader emphasized the need for peace negotiations, calling an immediate end to the war the ideal outcome. He identified an unconditional and complete ceasefire as the first step toward peace. Yet, Zelensky cautioned against the dangers of a ceasefire without guarantors or monitoring mechanisms.
'If there are no guarantors and no monitoring of the ceasefire, Russia could exploit this and advance 20 kilometers in some parts of Ukraine.' - Volodymyr Zelensky
Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine insists on no preconditions for achieving a ceasefire. He views a meeting at the level of leaders from Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and the United States as the best negotiation format. 'So far, they have not demonstrated this,' he added, pointing to Russia’s lack of readiness for such talks.
Kyiv is prepared to send expert teams to European partners under the Drone Deal initiative, showcasing its commitment to international cooperation.
Zelensky’s remarks highlight the complexity of the front-line situation and the critical role of international support for Ukraine. His persistence in seeking a peaceful resolution reflects Kyiv’s readiness for dialogue, but also caution toward Moscow given past agreement violations. As the conflict’s escalation threatens further devastation, international collaboration and clear guarantees could be key to regional stability.
