Ukrainian Marine Corps Day
Ukraine observes Marine Corps Day every May 23. This professional holiday for the country's marines was established in 2018 to commemorate key events from 1918, when Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi issued a decree to form a marine brigade. That brigade was created as part of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian State, marking a significant development in the nation's military capabilities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended his greetings to service members on this occasion, highlighting their dedication and heroism.
'Ukraine's Marine Corps stands for loyalty, for the readiness to protect our people no matter what, to hold our positions, and to destroy the occupier. Our warriors are heroes. On the toughest sections of the front line, they deliver results for Ukraine through their strength, endurance, and character, giving us confidence that we will prevail.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to the troops who, alongside other units of the Defense Forces, demonstrate daily that Ukrainians do not surrender what is theirs and that the Ukrainian spirit is truly unbreakable. 'I thank every marine for your resilience and for protecting our people,' he added.
Furthermore, the president underscored the importance of recognizing the high price Ukraine pays for its independence.
'And we all must realize the immense cost at which Ukraine's independence is achieved, the battles in which it is won. We honor the sacrifice of fallen heroes. We take pride in every man and woman who continues the fight today, defends the state, and brings peace closer for Ukraine.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Thus, Marine Corps Day serves not only as a celebration but also as a reminder of the heroic deeds of those fighting for the country's independence. This holiday underscores the importance of military service and the role of the Marine Corps in ensuring Ukraine's national security, especially amid contemporary challenges and threats.
Observing this day also reminds society of the need to support the Armed Forces and honor the memory of fallen heroes who strive for peace and freedom for their nation.
As we honor the brave members of the Marine Corps, it is also essential to recognize the contributions of other military branches in defending Ukraine's sovereignty. On a day dedicated to celebrating the valor of our soldiers, Infantry Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those on the front lines and the indomitable spirit that unites all defenders of our nation.
