Serhii Beskrestnov Takes on New Role
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has named Serhii Beskrestnov—widely recognized by his call sign Flash—as an off-staff advisor focused on advancing defense technology. The official decree was released on the Presidential Office website. This appointment followed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Beskrestnov held just prior to the formal announcement.
Background and Responsibilities
Beskrestnov already brings relevant experience to the position, having been appointed as a technology advisor to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense earlier this year in January. His primary work at the ministry involved developing systemic solutions to counter Russian attack and reconnaissance drones. In his new capacity, he will continue to address critical defense technology issues, including handling captured enemy equipment and providing expert assessments of emerging military innovations.
During their meeting, Zelenskyy underscored the pivotal role of technology in national defense, stating:
“My meeting with Serhii Beskrestnov—Flash. We had a very thorough discussion of everything that is currently most pressing in the technological components of our defense. It is technology that saves the lives of our soldiers and brings this war home—to Russia.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The president also stressed the need to stay ahead of the aggressor's military innovations, adding:
“We know the details, so we counter precisely.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy assured that he and Beskrestnov would establish the closest possible collaboration to roll out new defense solutions.
This move highlights the Ukrainian leadership's commitment to technological advancement in defense—a critical priority amid modern warfare. The partnership between the president and the new advisor could accelerate the adoption of innovations, thereby strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities. As military aggression continues, such strategic decisions become increasingly vital.
