Statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared that Ukraine is prepared to refrain from striking targets within the Russian Federation, provided Russia takes reciprocal action. He stressed Ukraine's desire to move swiftly toward an agreement to end the war. Zelenskyy also stated he will receive a report from the Ukrainian delegation following the first round of negotiations in Geneva.
Russian Aggression and Its Consequences
On February 17, the Russian army launched a massive strike across 12 regions of Ukraine, wounding nine people, including children. More than ten residential buildings and railway infrastructure were damaged. That day, 29 missiles of various types were fired, of which 25 were successfully intercepted by Ukraine's air defense systems. President Zelenskyy noted the crucial results of the air defense's work, which remains a daily necessity for the country.
Zelenskyy also highlighted the components found in Russian missiles, pointing out that five 'Iskander-M' missiles contain at least 75 critical components not of Russian manufacture. Three Kh-101 missiles possess nearly 160 components that Russia cannot replace on its own. Furthermore, each 'Shahed' drone contains hundreds of components imported into Russia from other nations, including supplies from European, American, and Japanese sources.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of blocking the supply chains for these critical weapon components, a matter he described as vital not only for Ukraine but for global security.
He further expressed concern about the potential consequences for Russia due to its actions, which, in his view, underscore the priority of genuine diplomacy and lasting peace.
President Zelenskyy's statement on readiness for peace talks underscores Ukraine's pursuit of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, despite Russia's ongoing aggression. This diplomatic stance comes as Ukraine continues to defend itself against daily attacks.
