Zelensky on negotiations: Ukraine has sent the US its own version of the peace plan

Ukraine's negotiations on ending the war

On December 12, 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the active work of the Ukrainian negotiating team in several directions, particularly in Germany, the US, and with national security advisors. Zelensky noted that the main goal of these negotiations is to bring about a real end to the war and to determine the steps that will ensure a dignified peace for Ukraine, as well as guaranteed security and recovery.

At the defense group meeting in Germany, led by Lieutenant General Hnatov, important security and cooperation issues are being discussed. In Ukraine, the economic, recovery, and investment group is represented by:

  • Yulia Svyrydenko
  • Taras Kachka
  • Olexiy Sobolev

Zelensky also reported that Ukraine has sent the US its own version of the peace plan, in which the number of points has been reduced from 28 to 20. Nevertheless, no compromise on territories has been found so far.

Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that in all directions, our goal is the same: 'to bring about a real end to the war and to determine the steps that will make peace dignified for Ukraine, and security and recovery guaranteed.'

These efforts testify to the intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic activities at a difficult time, when issues of peace and security are becoming extremely relevant.

Intensification of negotiation efforts

The intensification of Ukraine's negotiation efforts occurs against the backdrop of ongoing military aggression and the need for stability in the region. The participation of representatives from the economic block highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to the issue of recovery and investments after the conflict ends. At the same time, the reduction in the number of points in the peace plan may indicate the Ukrainian side's desire to find a compromise and simplify the negotiation process, although the issue of territorial integrity remains problematic.
